Tommy Hilfiger with our upcycled sample for designer Clarence Ruth at Disney 100.
We had the privilege of collaborating with Clarence Ruth, Creative Director of Cotte D’Armes and a partner of Tommy Hilfiger’s People’s Place Program, an initiative founded to make fashion accessible to marginalized communities. As Clarence shared his imaginative design concept with us, our design team, product development team, and sampling team worked closely with him to bring his vision to life, transforming ideas from sketches into exquisite physical pieces.
After thorough discussions of the design idea, our team refined the draft repeatedly until it perfectly captured Clarence’s creative vision. We meticulously developed the tech packs and patterns, creating several mockups and samples over a span of two months to ensure that every detail was flawless. The combination of a shirt and a ballgown—a concept entirely unique and pioneer — presented a significant challenge from both a design and production perspective, requiring precision and innovation.
As part of this collaboration, we introduced our CMRC (CmiRecycle) process to ensure that sustainability was a cornerstone of the collection. By utilizing upcycled materials, we were able to reduce waste while delivering the same high level of quality and craftsmanship.
We also worked diligently to craft the intricate patches, ensuring they were as detailed and delicate as possible. Additionally, the embroidery on the gown and jacket posed its own set of challenges, demanding exceptional skill and craftsmanship to execute.
In collaboration with Clarence Ruth, known for his passion for storytelling and animation, we helped reimagine the iconic Tommy Hilfiger polo shirt as a Mickey Mouse-inspired ballgown, a remarkable fusion of creativity and fashion.
