Cotte D'Armes rolls out upcycled red jump suit at LVMH x HFR NYFW show.
We were honored to collaborate with Clarence Ruth, the visionary designer and Creative Director of Cotte D’Armes, serving as his product development team to bring his extraordinary ideas from imagination to reality. From the initial concept to the final product, our design team worked tirelessly to refine his design drafts over and over, ensuring every detail matched his vision precisely.
One of the standout aspects of this collaboration was our integration of our signature CMRC (Call Me Recycle) upcycling process. This unique approach allows us to take surplus and unused materials, reimagine them, and dye them into new vibrant colors, transforming waste into something elegant and sustainable. Through CMRC, we were able to blend Clarence's creative ideas with our sustainability commitment, making this collection not only a feat of design but also a statement on reducing fashion waste.
The process of turning Clarence’s ideas into elegant products took nearly three months, during which we developed multiple tech packs and meticulously created patterns, testing and adjusting countless times to achieve perfect mockups. Throughout this process, we prioritized minimizing waste and maximizing the use of upcycled materials, which is central to the CMRC philosophy.
One of the most challenging pieces was the motorcycle-inspired suit, which required creating shoulder pumps and incorporating specialized materials to ensure the suit was both durable and structurally sound. The design also featured intricate knee and elbow details that had to be engineered with precision. Our team consistently embraced these challenges, pushing our limits and overcoming each obstacle with a determination to achieve perfection.
The digital print suit was another feat of craftsmanship. We had to carefully redraw the artwork, ensuring it aligned seamlessly when the suit was buttoned and the pants were straightened. Every part of the print needed to flow perfectly, requiring extraordinary attention to detail.
Additionally, the denim pieces were designed with many removable parts, and the accompanying dress featured delicate materials that posed significant sewing and construction challenges. We worked relentlessly on patterning, adjusting each design element at least five times to ensure the garments fit flawlessly on the models.
By integrating our CMRC upcycling process and focusing on sustainability, this collection showcases our ability to fuse high fashion with eco-friendly practices. Our team’s relentless pursuit of excellence in craftsmanship, combined with Clarence’s creativity, made these groundbreaking pieces possible. Together, we’ve proven that with passion and dedication, no design is too difficult to bring to life.
"I was inspired by Virgil and how he connected with LVMH and how these two worlds collided and created something beautiful,” he said. Models hit the runway in letterman jackets and mesh veils, white ball gowns paired with lace-up denim jackets, and moto gloves worn with race suits." - Clarence Ruth
